What We Do

The Tenafly Speech and Language Center (TSLC) provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to children ranging in age from 12 months to 16 years, with a variety of disorders and delays, including Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome; cognitive-linguistic delays; speech, phonological, and articulation disorders; receptive and expressive delays; childhood apraxia of speech; oral motor and feeding needs; hearing impairment; and learning and reading disabilities related to language disorders. In addition to individual therapy, the TSLC offers a parent/child Toddler Socialization Program for children 2-3 years old and social pragmatic groups for children 3-15 years old. The group therapy sessions develop and facilitate social pragmatic skills among same-age peers while each child increases his or her individual speech and language abilities.

Our therapists develop home and school programs for the child and their families. We counsel family members regarding each child’s progress and provide parents/guardians with information, suggestions, and referrals. We conduct school visits, contact other professionals on the child’s professional team, and can accompany parents/family to child study team meetings and conferences.

Additionally, the TSLC extends its services to the community by providing speech and language early intervention screenings to local preschools and nursery programs as well as offering in-services to other professionals and colleagues.
